Abstract
This is a reflection on the work of poet and novelist G.Mend-Ooyo. His writings spin a thread of time that links biography, kinship, homeland, and geology. Most strikingly, his work serves as a potent example of what I have termed the domestication of deep time – a sense that we, as humans, can be at home within the cycles of the earth. Yet this sense of being at home is threatened by contemporary economic activities that act in ways that disrupt ecological and geological rhythms. The work of G.Mend-Ooyo is therefore also significant in allowing us to reflect on how such rupture might be repaired.
