Key findings

The key achievements in the project were:
• Reducing polymer lasing thresholds by using alternative feedback symmetries of photonic crystal DFB lasers
• Development of coupled-wave models for controlling lasing in hybrid DFB-DBR/microcavity resonators
• Demonstration of improved lasing characteristics in hybrid DFB and DBR/microcavity polymer resonators
• Control of dual wavelength operation in multi-period DFB lasers
• Demonstration of organic photonic crystal fibre lasers, and study of their operating characteristics
• Demonstration of gain and lasing in a dye-to-polymer energy transfer blends
• Demonstration of polymer lasers directly pumped by a InGaN semiconductor diode laser
