This £1000 research grant supported a month long research trip to archives in Southern California, in support of my PhD thesis project. I consulted material at the Huntington Library, the Pasadena Museum of History Research Library and Archives, and UCLA Library's Special Collections. This included ephemera related to tuberculosis, the 1918-19 influenza pandemic and the development of medical institutions within the Southern California region including numerous sanatoria and the Los Angeles County Medical Association. The material found during my research trip will contribute to all four chapters of my Phd thesis, as well as an additional article and the groundworks for a potential post-doctoral project application.
