Cowdenbeath and District Probus Club Honorary Member

Prize: Other distinction

Description

Honorary membership in recognition of my contribution to the Cowdenbeath and District Probus Club. I have given a number of guest lectures to members of the Cowdenbeath, and other Probus Clubs, over several years. COWDENBEATH & District Probus Club has bestowed an honorary membership on a leading historian. At the fortnightly meeting last Tuesday, in St Serf’s Church Hall, Lochgelly, intimation was made of the forthcoming inter Probus Club Quiz which will be held in March. President George Seath then announced that it was a great honour for him, during his year in office, to bestow the position of Honorary Membership to Dr Derek J. Patrick PhD, Lecturer in Scottish History and Senior Adviser for the School of Humanities at Dundee University. President Seath said that Dr Patrick 'was a man of great gravitas, who has a wealth of passion and a superb knowledge of his field, which the club had been privileged to witness and appreciate on numerous occasions, as he had often stepped in to assist and giving historical talks at short notice'. His talks had included the History of the Black Watch, the First World War, The Scottish Regiments and the Union of the Crowns. Dr Patrick, in accepting his Honorary Membership, said it was a great honour which he greatly appreciated. Central Fife Times, 3 March 2015.
