Viviane Saglier

My research is concerned with the politics of film culture in the Arab world from the 1950s until today. I pay particular attention to how post/colonial, anticolonial, and neoliberal logics organize film aesthetics and infrastructures.

My current book project Cinema of Dignity asks what happens when cinema becomes a basic right and a material condition for collective and political life. It follows the formation of a film culture in Palestine after the Second Intifada and its entanglement with the double logics of colonization and development.

My second book project (under contract with Palgrave Macmillan) argues that decolonization is a feminist issue. I investigate how the transnational circulation of an Arab woman revolutionary icon across visual media shapes political communities.
