Research overview

Scott is a Specialty Registrar in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. He has keen interest in clinical research, particularly related to lower limb primary and revision arthroplasty. He also holds an interest in the intersection between orthopaedic surgery and novel technologies.

He is currently undertaking a PhD related to image-free robotic assistance in arthroplasty. He is working at the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital in his role as the fellow for the research network linking Scotland's national treatment centres: the Scottish Centres for Orthopaedic Treatment & Innovation in Surgery & Health (SCOTTISH) Network

He has other research interests outside of his PhD, which include general lower limb arthroplasty, revision arthroplasty, trauma care, as well as economic and personal burden of arthritis and trauma. He has experience working in large-scale randomised trials through his time as an NIHR Associate Principal Investigator on the RECOVERY trial. He has also worked with the Scottish Arthroplasty Project national arthroplasty registry to assess outcomes from joint replacements in very young patients.

Scott is also actively involved in supporting elite sportspeople through his work as club doctor for St. Johnstone FC. This has led to other avenues of research work, including work on longer term arthritis risk in football players.
