Research overview

Robin El Kady is a PhD Candidate in International Relations at the University of St Andrews and a Fellow at the Centre for Global Law and Governance. As part of his PhD, he was a Doctoral Visiting Student at the University of Oxford. At St Andrews, he also works as an academic tutor for undergraduate students. He has received the university-wide Teaching Award for his courses on global politics.

His doctoral thesis focuses on international organisations’ use of public communication. He uses both quantitative computational data science and qualitative methods to investigate how new media technology changes international organisations’ legitimation strategies. He works under the supervision of Dr Mateja Peter and Dr Adam Bower.

Robin El Kady holds two Master's from Harvard University and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (Tufts University). He received a Master's in 'Religion, Ethics, Politics' from Harvard and a Master's in 'International Relations' (with a focus on public international law and international negotiation / conflict resolution) from the Fletcher School. He did his undergraduate in 'European Media Studies' at University of Potsdam in Germany and at Columbia University in New York. 

El Kady has gained extensive research experience as an external researcher for the German Ministry of Defense, as a research assistant at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and as a research intern for the German Council on Foreign Relations (USA / Transatlantic Relations Division).

Robin El Kady has extensive professional experiences as a former intern for the United Nations Secretariat in New York, as a law teacher at the Oxford Royale Academy and as a travel reporter as well as communication intern for several international film and media companies.
