My research interests focus, primarily, on the Latin states of Outremer and the encounters between its Frankish population and its various non-Latin and non-Christian, groups, particularly in how they assessed their own cultural and religious differences. 

My PhD project looks towards the thirteenth century and arrival of the Mongols in the Near East, examining their interactions with the Franks through mediation from Eastern Christians, who often acted as diplomats, administrators, and translators in the Mongol court. In assessing the agency exerted by these non-Latin Christians, this project seeks to better understand how the Frankish elite's perception of the Mongols shifted according to indirect, and often contradictory, processes of transmission - what some historians have described as a 'war of information'.

For the 2025/2026 academic year I am a tutor on ME2003 ('Medieval Europe: Eleventh to Fifteenth Centuries').
