Research overview

Matthew started his PhD in 2021 and is researching part-time and remotely while working full-time in the art industry in London.

His research focuses on the art of Louis Anquetin in the late nineteenth-century. He is particularly interested in Anquetin's portrayal of the 'New Woman' and how she relates to concepts of national identity. He is also interested in the stylistic development of Anquetin's art, particularly throughout the 1880s and into the early 1890s.
