Education

PhD in International Business and Management (University of Edinburgh). 

MSc in International Business and Emerging Markets (University of Edinburgh).

MA (Hons) in Classical Arabic and Business Studies (University of Edinburgh).

Background

Dr Khalik joined the University of St Andrews in October 2014 with extensive experience in teaching International Business, International Marketing and Strategy to students at various levels.

Prior to joining the University of St Andrews, Dr Khalik taught at The University of Edinburgh Business School for four years. During this time he was part of a team that designed a module titled 'Study Skills for Business', and the module was nominated for 'Best Module' in only its second year of running. Dr Khalik also implemented a successful 'Student Peer Learning System' for Undergraduate students.

Prior to working in Higher Education, Dr Khalik gained industry experience in the fields of Advertising, Sales, and Consultancy in the UK and internationally.

Management: Service and Leadership

Dr Khalik is the current Director of Teaching (DoT) for the Department of Management at the University of St Andrews Business School.

Dr Khalik has previously held many Service and Leadership roles at the School, including: Director of the MLitt International Business Programme, Sub-honours and Honours Adviser, and Academic Misconduct Officer (AMO).

Between 2018-2023, Dr Khalik was the Coordinator for the successful Masters Extra (MX) Programme, which is designed for Postgraduate students. 

In 2019, Dr Khalik was Nominated for the Award of 'Best Academic Mentor'. More recently in 2024, he was Nominated for the Award of ‘Outstanding Academic Mentorship’. 

Current Teaching

Dr Khalik is currently the Module Coordinator and Lecturer for the module titled 'International Business and Emerging Markets', which is a core module on the MLitt International Business programme in the Department of Management.

In 2024, Dr Khalik was Nominated for the Award of ‘Outstanding Innovation in Teaching’.

MNE and SME Internationalisation from Developed Countries and Emerging Markets.

Formal and Informal Lending to BoP Entrepreneurs in Emerging Markets.

Corruption and FDI in Emerging Markets. 

Guest Lecturer and Conferences

Dr Khalik has been a Guest Lecturer at many universities, including The University of Edinburgh Business School, Hull University Business School, Manning School of Business at the University of Massachusetts and Universidad del Norte in Colombia.

Dr Khalik has attended many conferences, including 'The Academy of Management', 'The Academy of International Business', and 'Colombia-Europe: Catedra Europa'. 

In 2024, Dr Khalik won the ‘Best Abstract Award’ Chosen by Prof. Jeremey Clegg at the Irish International Business and Management Conference.

Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Teaching English as a Foreign Language certification (TEFL).
