Research overview

Laura began the Doctor of Professional Practice in TESOL Education in January 2022. She is currently researching professionalism and professional development of freelance English teachers in Germany. 

Educational background:

  • MA (distinction): Technology, Education and Learning (University of Leeds)
    • Thesis: Using audio recording, transcription and reflection to develop speaking skills and self-efficacy with English language learners
  • Master of Education: Leadership and Management (Open University)
    • Thesis: Peer observation as a development tool for freelance language trainers
  • BA in English Literature, German and Philosophy (National University of Ireland Maynooth).

Professional Experience

In addition to teaching Business English and ESP, Laura works as a freelance language test author and designer. She has developed concepts and content for digital language tests and online materials for secondary school students and adult leaners at all levels of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

Over the last decade, she has given talks at conferences around Germany, Europe and in Hong Kong. The topics include assessment, material design and the CEFR.
