Biography

Dr Kathryn Steven qualified from the University of Manchester with an MBChB (Hons) in 2008. She then completed the academic Foundation Programme at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, before undertaking GP training between NHS Lothian and the North West Deanery in England. She completed her Masters in Medical Education in 2015 and her MD in 2019. 

Dr Steven is currently Deputy Programme Director Phase 2 MBChB and Clinical Senior Lecturer at the School of Medicine, St Andrews.

She works clinically as a General Practitioner in Fife.

Research overview

My Masters in Medical Education examined markers of widening participation in medicine. 

My MD thesis examined interprofessional education between medical and pharmacy students, using a realist approach.

Current research interests explore the role of lifestyle medicine, nutrition and planetary health, relating this to medical education. 

Teaching activity

Lecturer in clinical and communication skills to BSc students at the School of Medicine, St Andrews. 

Involvement in assessment which includes sitting on exam boards, writing questions and OSCE examining.
