Biography

Hannah Goozee is an Associate Lecturer in the School of International Relations at the University of St Andrews. Hannah’s interdisciplinary research engages decolonial and feminist approaches to study questions of violence, trauma, and injury in conflict-affected societies. Before joining the School of International Relations in 2025, Hannah held the position of Research Associate at the Department of War Studies, King’s College London. Prior to this, she was a lecturer at Utrecht University and the University of Groningen where she taught International Relations and Conflict Studies.

Hannah’s doctoral and post-doctoral research has focused on the politics of trauma and injury in South Africa. She received her PhD from the Department of War Studies, King’s College London in 2021. Her ESRC-funded doctoral research examined the politics of trauma in the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), focusing on the lived experience of communities. In her role of Research Associate at King’s College London, Hannah undertook research into the history and conceptualisation of injury in South Africa for the ‘Mapping Injury’ research project led by Professor Vivienne Jabri. Hannah’s work draws upon scholarship from International Relations, Conflict Studies, Transitional Justice, and more. Her current research considers questions of medicalisation, temporality, and ethics.
