Research overview
Emily is an Anglo-German theologian with a focus on ethics medical and theological. She completed her undergraduate studies in Theology at the University of Kiel, Germany, and holds an MLitt in Systematic and Historical Theology from the University of St Andrews. Since 2023 she has been pursuing a doctorate in Theological Ethics under Dr John Perry and Prof Oliver Crisp at St Andrews, focussing on developing a Christian ethic of informed consent for medical data donation. She currently tutors for modules on Divinity and Medical Ethics at the University of St Andrews. Previously, she has worked in medical ethics research at the Institute of Experimental Medicine at the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein and as an arthoplastic surgical assistant at Lubinus Klinikum Kiel. Her research interests include the didactics of medical ethics; the critique of principlism; (theological) history of medical ethics; theological views on the interplay of love and justice, informed consent, and uterus transplants and other gestational issues.
