Personal profile

Research overview

My research focuses on twentieth and twenty-first century French literature, especially poetry, and its relations to philosophy and politics.

My last monograph, Figures de l'intrusion (L'Harmattan, 2019) focuses on the notion of intrusion drawing from Jean-Luc Nancy's take on the body and aesthetics. It addresses questions of adoption, adaptation as well as rejection in relation to films by Claire Denis, Nicolas Klotz and Rabah Ameur Zaïmeche.

As co-director of the Centre for Poetic Innovation, I am keen to bring together academics and practitioners and to provide a stimulating research environment for postgraduate students.

Research interests

My research interests include issues of language in relation to poetry and poetics, the interface between literature and philosophy, the politics of literature.

I would be happy to supervise research projects in the following areas:

1. The interface between literature and film

2. 20th century and contemporary poetry

3. Issues relating to the politics of literature

Teaching activity

I offer two Honours modules in French: FR3079 From Text to Screen and FR4180 Modern French Thought. I am also part of the teaching team for FR4150 Creative Writing in French and contribute to the delivery of the programme of Comparative Literature as well as to the MLitt in Modern Languages.
