David Johnston was recently awarded his PhD in the New Testament. His work on the book of Romans focused on the problem of Rom 7, where he argued that the problem that Paul was confronting was the Law of his opponents. In so doing, he set forth a new interpretation of both the Law and the speaker of this controversial passage. His research interests focus on the book of Romans, but they also include the historical occasion of Paul’s letters, Paul’s theology, discourse analysis, and the Koine Greek language. He has presented papers concerning his research at international conferences, is revising his thesis for publication, and is working on his second monograph.
