Chloe’s doctoral research looks at gendered legal responses to terrorists by examining terrorism trials held in England and Wales. Through an interdisciplinary approach, drawing on substantive, conceptual and theoretical perspectives from Law, Terrorism Studies, and International Relations, the study examines processes of agency attribution to explore why men and women might be treated differently by the courts. The project therefore interrogates patterns of prosecution and the implicit biases which may influence how the criminal justice system treats terrorism offenders.
The project also outlines the barriers to criminal justice research in the UK, the impact that these obstacles have on interdisciplinary socio-legal terrorism research, and considers how these might be overcome.
Her further research interests include considerations of gender in counter-terrorism, violent crime, policing, policymaking, and de-radicalisation.
Chloe holds a AFHEA certificate and is the current Academic Skills Project co-ordinator for International Relations.
