Research overview
Alia Taifi is a PhD candidate in the Department of German, working under the supervision of Dr Michael White and Prof. Mary Orr. Her thesis, provisionally titled ‘Mothers and Others: Female Selfhood in Nineteenth-Century Fiction,' examines the function of female characters in Theodor Fontane’s novels, addressing issues of identity and emancipation, and the intersection of feminist and disability studies.
She received her MA (Hons) in Comparative Literature and German and her MLitt in Modern Languages (German) from the University of St Andrews.
