Organisation profile

The Photonic Crystal Research Group was founded in March 2000 to add expertise in nanostructured semiconductors to the research portfolio at St Andrews.

The group has now grown to an average size of 15 researchers, about half of which are PhD students and the other half postdocs. In addition, we regularly host research visitors and Master students, most notably from the Photonics course of the Erasmus Mundus Masters.

Steve Balfour and George Robb, the research technicians, are key assets for the group keeping the equipment in prime condition, and Christopher Reardon in his role, looks after the day-to-day running of the group.
