Wikimedia approached T. Kamusella - as the then sole authority on the Silesian language and its use - regharding his opinion on the potential launch of a Silesian Wikipedia. Kamusella supporeted this idea, which led to the subsequent launch of this Wikipedia in late May 2008.

The success allowed half a million Silesian-speakers in Poland and Czechia to avail themselves of the riches ofhuman knowledge provided in their mothertongue.
Narrative
The launch of the Silesian Wikipedia constitutes a milestone in the standardization and recognition of the Silesian language. Silesian was officially recognized as a language in Poland in 2023.
