The Dundee Arctic Trade, 1858-1922: People, Connections and Places on the Peripheries (thesis data)

Compiled data come from numerous archival sources involving transcription and collation and analysis in MS Excel spreadsheets. These files include detailed financial investment information on Dundee whaling and shipping interests, mostly from 1861 to 1911. Other files compile ship and voyage information as well as Arctic animal harvests and material culture collections. Finally, there are files detailing research and analysis on thousands of historical figures ranging from merchant mariners, Dundonians, Shetlanders and Inuit to global figures, Scottish emigrants and boys assigned to the Mars Industrial Training Ship among others. While some datasets remain incomplete, every file includes meticulous source documentation.
