Cool star magnetic field topologies - Connecting simulations and observations for solar-like stars (thesis data)

Dataset

Description

The row data of the 3 research chapters are uploaded as .zip file named after the corresponding chapters, e.g. Chapter3.zip.

Chapter3.zip contains 3 subfolders of the 3 groups of stars (low DR (differential rotation), high DR and high MF (meridional flow)) as grouped in the thesis. The subfolders contain .dat files storing the plotted data of the single stars.
For example: OptimalAverageData_B_axi_E_run3_1deg_5_lmax28.dat contains the optimal averaged data for the axisymmetric magnetic energy (axi_E) for the star run1_1deg_5 = 1x solar flux emergence rate and 5x solar differential rotation for all cumulative l-modes up to l=28 (lmax = cumulative l-mode -1, i.e. lmax=0 = (cumulative) l-mode =1). The file stores in the corresponding columns the lmax mode, Mean, Error and additionally the Errorbar High End, Errorbar Low End for the magnetic energies for the logarithmic plots.

Chapter4.zip and Chapter5.zip contain .sav files, which store the magnetic maps of the input simulations and ZDI reconstructions. They can be read with the program IDL using the following command: restore, 'filename.sav', /verbose and return the maps as arrays of 360x180 pixel corresponding to 360 longitudinal and 180 latitudinal grid points. For example: the IDL output looks like this:
% RESTORE: Portable (XDR) SAVE/RESTORE file.
% RESTORE: Save file written by [email protected], Thu Oct 5
16:03:17 2017.
% RESTORE: IDL version 8.5.1 (darwin, x86_64).
% RESTORE: Restored variable: B_RAD_LMAX.
% RESTORE: Restored variable: B_AZI_LMAX.
% RESTORE: Restored variable: B_MER_LMAX.
% RESTORE: Restored variable: B_AZI_TOR.
% RESTORE: Restored variable: B_MER_TOR.
% RESTORE: Restored variable: B_AZI_POL.
% RESTORE: Restored variable: B_MER_POL.
and indicates that the radial (B_RAD_LMAX), azimuthal (B_AZI_LMAX), meridional (B_MER_LMAX), azimuthal toroidal (B_AZI_TOR), meridional toroidal (B_MER_TOR), azimuthal poloidal (B_AZI_POL) and meridional poloidal (B_MER_POL) are available.

Chapter4.zip: How to read the filename: the first two numbers indicate the star (11 for solar twin, 33 for the 3x more active star, 55 for the 5x more active star). The next 4 numbers indicate the map ID. The input maps are indicated by the ending “_lmax28_lmax28.sav”. The ZDI maps include the inclination as “_i20nt_” or “_i60nt_” for an inclination of 20˚ or 60˚.

Chapter5.zip: How to read the filename: the first 4 numbers indicate the map ID (increasing with time). The 118 simulated maps of the cycle are indicated by the ending: “_lmax28_lmax28.sav”. The 41 ZDI maps by “_lmax7_lmax 7.sav”.
