Will North Korea denuclearise?

Press/Media: Relating to Research

Description

Will North Korea denuclearise and if so how? Is that vision compatible with US demands?

Assuming Pyongyang intends to do so a sticky point will be the time-frame. A six-month time-frame, as currently demanded by the US, not realistic. One needs years to do so, as it involves sites, facilities, personnel, buildings and stockpiles.

How realistic is to expect that the US will withdraw its nuclear umbrella from the Korean peninsula and East Asia in general?
Removing US troops from the peninsula would be consistent with the promise made by President Trump during the electoral campaign so this is not impossible to envisage. Quite a different story is removing US troops and its security umbrella from the region (Japan, GUAM). This is not a reasonable demand from the North Korean side.
