    DescriptionThe military junta announced that elections would be held in late 2025 or early 2026. This is unlikely to lead to free and fair elections given that the country is mired in civil war, the junta controls less than half the territory (and population). At the same time the opposition is fragmented along different agenda and territorial lines and is unlikely to pose an existential threat to the regime under these conditions.
