Yumiko Fujita Imanishi is pleased to mark the first anniversary of the Japan Cohort Team in the DProf in TESOL programme at the University of St Andrews. She launched the Cohort during a challenging period in her doctoral journey (Imanishi, 2026), organising a monthly online meetup for its 17 postgraduate members connected to Japan. She is also pleased to note that a DProf student in another region has established a similar cohort team inspired by her initiative (Imanishi, 2026). She hopes the community will continue to offer distance‑learning students a sense of belonging and a supportive space to share their emotions, concerns, and research as they progress through their doctoral work. Call for Papers: AILA 2027 – Learner Autonomy ReN Symposium The AILA Research Network for Learner Autonomy (ReNLA) invites 250‑word abstracts for its AILA 2027 Symposium, Developing Language Learner Autonomy: Practice and Research in the Plural 21st‑Century World. The symposium examines autonomy in today’s plurilingual, digitally mediated, and increasingly AI‑shaped learning environments.   Research is welcomed which explores plurilingualism, digital and AI‑enhanced learning, self‑regulation, self‑access, pedagogy, inclusion, learner diversity, and future directions for autonomy-supportive practice. Abstracts should outline background, aims, methods or conceptual framing, key findings, and implications.
