Working with Mario Badagliacca: Arts-Based Research and the Borders of Competence

Activity: Talk or presentation typesPublic lecture/debate/seminar

This presentation will reflect on my collaboration with Mario Badagliacca whose photographic series Italy is out was developed as part of ‘Transnationalizing Modern Languages’, a large AHRC-funded research project exploring Italian cultures of migration. Mario was not a named researcher in the project’s funding application, but we considered his work as primary research, not secondary to, nor simply illustrative of, other more conventional academic outputs. I will reflect on the different formats in which his work has appeared and on how my own research practice has changed as a result of working with Mario and other creative practitioners. The interactive session will involve participants in the creation of a brief for a collaborative arts-based project, starting from Badagliacca’s work.
