Description
Writers in Ukraine are creating powerful books to help children engage with the difficult histories once silenced in the Soviet Union and now suppressed in contemporary Russia. This talk explores the playful yet poignant poetry of Hryhorii Falkovych, an 85-year-old Ukrainian Jewish author whose picture book about Rudy the Jack Russell Terrier helps young readers face the challenges of wartime displacement. We’ll also examine recent picture and chapter books that address the Holocaust, the Holodomor, and other challenging subjects—stories intended to build an inclusive, multicultural, and Ukrainian children’s literature for a peaceful future.| Period | 24 Aug 2025 |
