Description

This paper considers the mechanisms used by a Scottish Calvinist Ambassador in his successful integration into the diplomatic service of Lutheran Sweden. According to most Swedish historiography, Calvinists were banned in Sweden after 1593. This paper uses the Spens case to show that this was simply not the case.
