Description
A 45 minute lecture followed by 15 minute Q&A which discussed the contemporary threat to the UK in 2018. I argued that the threat is perpetually overblown by both government and media. Furthermore, I argued that the UK counter-terrorism strategy CONTEST, particularly its PREVENT strand, is not fit for purpose. I posited that PREVENT creates suspect communities, feeds animosity and alienation from the state, and recruits an ever widening pool of civil servants, health service professionals, educators and the general public into harmful practices of ethnic and religious profiling.
