The Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art & Objects of Cultural Interest (RCEWA) advises DCMS Ministers on whether cultural objects that people wish to export are national treasures. When DCMS Ministers decide that objects are national treasures, they will normally delay their decision on whether or not to grant an export licence in order to allow UK buyers time to raise the money to purchase the objects. Following recommendations made in the Goodison Report, certain functions were transferred to the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) in 2005. The MLA now provides the secretariat to the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art and Objects of Cultural Interest (RCEWA). DCMS remains responsible for export policy and is the contact point for all policy issues and enquiries. Our responsibilities include: facilitating liaison between the RCEWA, its secretariat and DCMS Ministers taking the lead in complicated cases developing export policy on objects of cultural interest
