Description

The Language of Philosophy in Speroni’s 'Dialoghi'

This paper argues that Speroni’s endorsement of the use of the vernacular was primarily motivated by his linguistic and epistemological conceptions, which assigned a crucial role to the authenticity and reliability of communication. In his Dialoghi, the vernacular is simply the only medium that can guarantee the epistemological validity and intellectual relevance of philosophical discourse in general, and of Aristotelian writings in particular.
