Description
The lecture examines the evolution of regional order in Central Asia since independence. It discusses the two central pillars of order (power and authority) before unpacking them both. The lecture will highlight how the foundations of regional order have evolved since 1991 from an initial withdrawal of Russian interest - as the new republics sought to carve new international roles for themselves - to the current situation where different types of order exist in different spheres (economic, security, political, cultural). Central Asia is a far more complex region compared to three decades ago.
