Description
This talk starts with insights from my recent book, Snapshots from Home: Mind, Action and Strategy in an Uncertain World, regarding the parallel drawn by physicists over the last century between quantum physics and ancient Asian philosophies, such as Buddhism and Daoism. While the social sciences have been beset by the problem of moving from the focus of quantum physics on the micro-scopic to the implications for macroscopic human and other life, the ancient Asian philosophies provide insight into the significance of quantum concepts for action and strategy in the world. The talk will first present the problem that motivated the book. It will then zoom in on the parallel between quantum complementarity and Daoist yinyang, exploring its implications for action and strategy, followed by an analysis of some implications of these insights for the social sciences.
