Description
Questions on wealth and poverty exist on many levels, and the structures of taxation are an integral part of the problem as much as they are part of the solution. The transnational element to these questions is the focus for this talk, informed by the public revelations of the formerly private, confidential practices of wealthy individuals and multinational corporations to avoid taxation and retain their wealth. Data provided by whistleblowers to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists are the basis for the Panama Papers (2016) and Paradise Papers (2017). These investigative reports will be situated in the structures and operations of offshore finance as an environment facilitating inequality.
