Description

Organised a training day in St Andrews for 20 students from the Polar Academy. The Polar Academy is a charity that supports disadvantaged young people age between 13 to 17 in Scotland, helping them develop confidence and self-esteem by giving them the opportunity to undertake a two-week Arctic expedition. We are supporting the Polar Academy by providing equipment and training to undertake scientific measurements whilst on expedition. On this visit, the students gained experience of using this equipment (measuring the temperature and salinity of water in St Andrews harbour), and experienced rowing a traditional coastal rowing boat, a type of craft that would have been familiar to participants on polar expeditions in the past. We also led the students through classroom activities to help prepare them for the upcoming expedition.
