Description
This paper explored existing gaming adaptations of Dante’s 'Comedy', leaving aside issues of accuracy to focus instead on the textual aspects that are mostly exploited to achieve innovation and success, and on those that are instead marginalised and overlooked. Considering the narrative, psychological, imaginative and visual potential offered by the text and often side-lined by game developers, the paper discussed in particular the ways in which stereotyping annihilates the Comedy’s inherently disruptive power. It also proposed creative approaches that would allow for a gaming experience coherent with the authenticity, intensity and relevance of the ‘original’.
