Panel discussion on co-design and co-production of physical geography research

Activity: Talk or presentation typesPublic lecture/debate/seminar

Description

An online panel discussion about co-design and co-production of physical geography research, organised by the Quaternary Research Association, British Society for Geomorphology and Royal Geographical Society-with IBG. Chaired by Prof Jane Hart, the panel (Dr Becky Briant, Dr Louise Callard, and Katy) presented their experience of research involving elements of co-design and co-production of knowledge with rural and/or indigenous communities from Iraq (Becky), Canada (Louise) and Peru (Katy). The discussion represents an initiative across these learned societies to encourage and facilitate more ethical and constructive working practices, engaging local communities in designing projects and avoiding “parachute science”. Allied academic disciplines such as archaeology, palaeontology, and ecology, have been working on the issue for longer and it is good to be part of the conversation in Quaternary science.
