Description
We hosted 4 S6 pupils from Scottish secondary schools for a hybrid Nuffield Research Placement at the School of Biology. The students investigated data gathered by NHS Scotland AMR alerting on unusual phenotypes of microbe and the antimicrobial drug that they exhibited resistance to. In addition, to work off-site, the students visited the University of St Andrews to collect a soil sample and extract DNA from it. As a final public engagement output, they produced an interactive human body on the "Antibiotics under our feet" website. In addition, they extended the data analysis work done on the presence of human pathogens in our soil samples started by the students participating in our Nuffield Research Placement 2022.Period | 24 Jul 2023 → 4 Aug 2023 |
