Description
We hosted 3 S6 pupils from Scottish secondary schools for a hybrid Nuffield Research Placement. The students carried out fieldwork collecting a soil sample and environmental data from near their home educational establishment, visited the University of St Andrews to extract DNA from their soil samples in the labs and carried out data analysis into the DNA sequencing results for our first six soil samples. They investigated microbial diversity, the presence of ESKAPE and other human pathogens and the presence of antibiotic producing microbes in our soil samples. They build on the workflow established by the students taking part in our Nuffield Research Placement 2021.Period | Jul 2022 → Aug 2022 |
