Description
As part of Music Planet, the St Andrews Chamber Orchestra presented Beethoven’s much-loved ‘Pastoral’ Symphony and, from a century later, Sibelius’s vigorous and optimistic Third Symphony in a thought-provoking concert which invited the audience to consider how the composition and performance of orchestral music can be both poetically descriptive of nature, as well as analogous to life cycles and the vulnerability of ecosystems. Conducted by Michael Downes and Bede Williams. The concert was preceded by a preconcert discussion between scientists, conductors and audience members, featuring Bede Williams, Michael Downes, Richard Bates and Peter Tyack.
