Description
Writing is essential for teachers. In fact, the ability to write effectively is as crucial for teachers as it is for students. Writing provides an opportunity for teachers to reflect on their teaching practices. It can also help them articulate their ideas, analyse their teaching strategies, and evaluate their effectiveness. Writing does not only benefit the individual practitioner, but also the whole community of practice. Writing provides a platform for teachers to exchange ideas, collaborate on research projects, and share best practices in their field. Writing can also enhance practitioners’ profiles and advance their careers. However, practitioners can find the writing process challenging due to time constraints, lack of resources, or difficulty navigating the publication process. In this interactive talk, we will explore the most common barriers that practitioners encounter when engaging with scholarship outputs and how to overcome them. We will start by drawing from the literature and our own experiences to identify barriers to writing at both structural and practical levels. We will reflect on effective techniques to challenge structural obstacles and address practical deterrents to our writing. We will then discuss different writing outlets to share our scholarly contributions and how to best navigate them. This workshop will conclude with the opportunity to share ideas and discuss future publication plan
