Description

Hate and Violence: The Scottish Experience of Communities and Complexities

As part of that effort to break down barriers, building stronger and more resilient communities, and increase dialogue across all communities the Health and Wellbeing Working Group hosted a 8 July 2013 workshop that brought together more than fifty stakeholders, including community activists, and government representatives from Police Scotland, the Scottish Government, British Academia, and faith, gender, sexual orientation, and race communities across Scotland.

I was one of four co-organisers and the chair for a workshop that brought together representatives of communities that had not met before, to engage questions regarding the motivations for hate crimes, inter-communal violence, and governmental and police responses from a range of perspectives and experiences. The workshop included participation of the Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Justice and the Director General for Justice and Education.
