Description

The Face to Face: Stories from the Asylum exhibition explored the lives of a small group of patients admitted to Dundee Royal Lunatic Asylum between 1886 and 1902. The case studies for this exhibition were drawn from the Tayside Health Board archives housed at University of Dundee Archive Services. Using information and photographs from their case notes, the exhibition examined the circumstances which led to their committal to the asylum, the dilemmas faced by their families, and the nature of their mental illness.

The exhibition comprised 9 panels A1 size each featuring the story of one patient, along with another A1 panel and two A3 panels with introductory and background information. The exhibition also included three exhibition cases displaying a range of materials selected by staff at University of Dundee Archive Services.
