EXPLORATHON @ The Shops

EXPLORATHON @ The Shops involved four University of St Andrews researchers running hands-on activities in the Wellgate Shopping Centre in Dundee. Activities included estimating marine mammal numbers. By basing ourselves in shopping centres, we were able to engage with individuals who may not have travelled to a similar event in St Andrews. We brought the research to them, rather than expecting them to come to us. We also observed a different demographic to typical science and research festivals. For example, in the Wellgate we met a lot of older adults as well as young parents. The venues also approached us for photographs of our events and we also discussed future collaborations.
