Description

Over the course of 4 sessions, my colleague Jess Cox and I organised a series of workshops that were open to all students of all levels of study, funded by the St Andrews EDI project. The aim of the workshop series was to provide a space for Humanities, STEM and Medical students to come together to think about questions regarding race from different disciplinary perspectives, to produce generative discussions and to help students find points of contact with peers from other schools.

The series workshops were as follows:

1. Histories of maternal racism with Sarah Shemery (Feb 17th)
2. African aesthetics and body poetics: written and visual engagement of feeling good with Dr Chisomo Kalinga (March 10th)
3. Critical race beyond the body: racialisation and spacialisation with Dr Ale Boussalem (March 17th)
4. Race science, eugenics and fascism with Jess Cox and Mathilde Lyons (March 24th)
