Coupled cognition and dynamic systems: beyond the believing individual

Activity: Talk or presentation typesInvited talk

Description

This paper revisits a pair of long-standing controversies in approaches to Greek religion, namely whether it is appropriate or not to represent Greek religion as a matter of 'belief' and whether it is appropriate to focus on individuals or groups. This paper explores the potential of two recent trends in cognitive science and developmental psychology, namely coupled or distributed cognition and dynamic systems theory, to offer ways out of the current impasse.
