Description
Cell Block Science is a ground-breaking public engagement programme led by researchers at the University of St Andrews to deliver informal science learning to prisoners. This session focused on the study of viruses, how they impact our health (good and bad) and vaccination. Lively discussions were followed by a real-life virology experiment (plaque assay) that highlighted the differences between antibiotics and antiviral medicines and how the overuse of antibiotics can lead to antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
