Cancer Awareness – talk and lab tour

Activity: Talk or presentation typesPublic lecture/debate/seminar

Description

Part of the University Wellbeing and Engagement Group’s calendar of health and wellbeing activities (the theme for April is 'cancer awareness and prevention'), Dr Paul Reynolds (School of Medicine) will deliver a talk on cancer research at the University followed by a lab tour. Since 1 in 2 of us will get some form of cancer during our lifetimes, the cancer awareness campaign is a reminder that we can all reduce our risk by making healthy lifestyle choices. Dr Reynolds will describe some of the facts and figures about cancer and that >40% of cancer in the UK is linked to lifestyle and environmental risk factors. There will be an overview describing the process of conducting clinical trials – how new medicines become treatments available for patients - and then information on some of the cancer/ pathology projects in the Systems Pathology labs at the School of Medicine. All are welcome but please note that there are only 20 places available on the lab tour and that these are offered on a first-come-first-served basis. Interested staff should email wellgrp@st-andrews.ac.uk to request a place on the tour.
