From adolescence to middle age, why the current obsession with them?

On Friday the film, New Moon goes on general release. It is the second instalment in the Twilight series, a set of books about a teenage girl who falls in love with a 104 year-old vampire named Edward Cullen. The series’ phenomenal success since 2005 has resulted in sales of 85 million copies worldwide. So why have these stories been so popular with teenage girls, and even with middle-aged women? And why do vampires continue to be such a source of fascination? Jenni talks to Dr Cecilia d’Felice, a psychologist and Dr Sara Lodge, an English lecturer at St Andrew’s University, and a specialist in Victorian literature.
